Well, I finally got my hands on a digital camera, so I thought I'd post a couple of pictures of my truck with my new tires fitted.

I know, I know. I don't need a tire this big. But hey, someone's gotta try 'em.

Looks nice. Very clean fender trimming. Can't tell from the picture ... how close is it trimmed to the rear door?

Thanks everyone. It's close to the rear door when stuffed, but doesn't make any contact. However, for astetic reasons, I'll be trimming them anyway. The way it is now, it looks as if the tire is forward in the wheel well because the doors aren't trimmed.

Then, when everything has been trimmed to match, I'll re-install my wheel-arch protectors. The fronts are done, just doiong some final sanding and painting.

I've taken two sets, A & B.

Set A was cut to the right of center, and set B was cut to the left of center. Then I took both long sides and grafted them together. This will give me an elongated, but not raised wheel-well opening. When installed, hopefully it will give a factory appearance.

Didn't you have the 34 x 9.5 swampers? Did you dump those? if so, why?

Yes. They were the 9x34 (actually 33.4") bias ply. I just couldn't live with the handling of the bias ply tire. Aaron Owens is the new proud owner of those tires.

Greg, I have zero experience with bias ply tires. How is the handling different with bias ply vs. radials? I've heard that the bias plys need to have the air pressure just right.
I was think about getting those swampers for strictly off-road use, but if they handle that poorly, I'd take a pass since any off-roading for me involves at least 4 hours drive time to get there.

Greg -- did not mean to be critical, you've done a beutiful job. I was just wondering if you had to actually trim the door skins themselves (which would be a pain) or just trimmed almost to the edge of the door -- I really couldn't tell from the picture.

Yeah, I've yet to see Greg's truck on the trail. His gallery doesn't show any either:

Hey at least it looks really nice on a fork lift!

I think that is the best looking D2 I have EVER seen.

Keep up the good work!

Nice rig Greg!

Looks like a lot of work went into getting the stance just right.

The 8274 recessed into the grill MAKES the front end.

Awesome.

Nice rig Greg,

When I get the money together, I'm going to lift mine more, and I'll probably go with 35s. That's off in the future, though.

How are those tires versus your older ones?

Cheers,

Kennith

Well, there's a couple of comments there that I'll just ignore for now.

The bias-ply were VERY squirmy on the road, regardless of the pressure. Every turn at speed was like going into a 4-wheel drift. I just couldn't get used to it, and didn't feel comfortable at speed with it.

Nothing has been trimmed in front of the rear wheels yet. I will trim the door and the fender well behind it for reasons described above.

I haven't had this setup off-road yet. Gimme a few weeks, and I'll try and get some REAL photos.

It's not the bias-ply doing it, it was the tire. I run 34x10.50s and have none of the problems you describe even when doing 70-80 on the highway.

Considering the multitudes of racing cars running bias-ply tires, I feel pretty confident saying it was the application and not the technology.

The new tires look sweet though. It's fun to go big.

Aaron, still stock! Trying to decide between the 4.10's and the 4.75's. It will all come from Bill @ GBR.

Very proud :-)

Trying to "Keep up with the Davis'" is just too much!

I don't find the bias plys that bad at handling. They are a bit squirrely on road; very good off road though. Only thing I really dislike is the flat spotting.

Aaron
