I have a purely hypothetical question - I'm just wondering about this:

I have a good-sized list of cargo plane charter companies that will transport cargo (even trucks) WITH the passengers.

Hypothetically, would it hurt rover to go for a plane ride in an unpressurized cargo area?? Has anyone out there ever transported their rover by air?? Just curious... I'd hate to even think about what that must cost!! Yikes!!

The cargo area should be pressurized. Maybe not as well as the passenger cabin which has to be set at an average 8,000 ft. MSL.

In the book the Vehicle Dependant Expedition Guide by Tom Shepard there are some pictures of RRC's on pallets going on a cargo plane. He gives some shipping rates but they are a bit old.

Do you have any websits of these charter companies? I guess it depends on the aircraft but a LR with a lift and roof rack might be too tall for all but a 747 cargo area. Even that might be too short.

Sounds like a cool idea in anycase.

I'm stuck at home sick so I looked up the cost in the book. In 97 it cost 5000 pounds to ship a 110 from the UK to Kenya. So I would think around 5 grand to ship from the east coast to Europe. Not cheap. But how cool would it be to have the bragging rights to say your truck made it across the pond by plane.

Maybe in 20 years when the aviation industry recovers I'll be flying a jumbo and be able to fudge a little on the weight and balance sheet and sneak my rover on board.

I work the C-17. The cargo are IS pressurized. Below a certain altitude it is not (That's how we can open up the back and drop troops and stuff)
