New competition for LR. http://www.crosslander4x4.com/toc/ Actually, it kinda looks like a cross between a D110 and an old Toy LC. I think that it is an ARO built under license in Brasil. I understand that the engine is LR's 300tdi. |

Are you from Brasil Luis? Too bad the Crosslander has IFS and (I think) leaf springs. It's a welcome addition and I would love to see one on the trails here in the US. |

Nah, sorry. Not from Brasil. Been there though, and planning on going again in late Sept. I like the woman there. |

Ah... gotcha... just noticed your spelling of Brasil vs. Brazil. Where did you hear that it wasn't going to make it due to DOT and EPA issues? That seems like something that would be addressed before they setup any dealerships. Also I thought the V6 was going to be the first engine offering in the US followed by the diesel. |

Well, it came up in conversation with several people involved with the engine manufacturer. I have the engine (diesel) that is going in these, and they are not allowed to be used on the road in the USA as a part of a commercially manufactured vehicle. Not because they arent clean enough or anything like that, but because of administrative stuff. The company has to run a fleet of them (60?) for 200,000 miles or some shit like that, and have them tracked with computers or something and then the results shown to EPA / DOT. I probably got that all wrong but thats the jist of it. It costs some $$$ to do, and they havent done it... dunno past that.

ARO tryed to bring in a suv about six years ago. It was similar to the crosslander. I believe it had a Mazda engine in it but it also would not pass emmisions. I got to drive one in Jacksonville and I can tell you we are missing nothing. The fit and finish were the worst I have every seen on any vehicle. It was a complete pos! |
