Trying to correct my high idle problem. Replaced my TPS. This did not fix the high idle problem but it has eliminated the stutter that was occuring on long drives. I had assumed I was going to need a valve job to deal with "sticky valves" but since the new TPS was installed the missing has disappeared. Knock on wood. Still working on the high idle however. Will be installing new "slightly used" ECU next week. This high idle originated after I brilliantly decided to have my engine cleaned 5-6 months ago. Have tried everything else. Will keep you informed of the results.

Good luck on the ECU replacement

And make sure you put a coversheet on the new TPS report.

LOL

If you've seen the movie "Office Space" you would understand the TPS joke.

Lighten up man.

Here, if you have seen the movie, perhaps you might agree that this is a more appropriate image.

When you change ECU, you might consider having an OBDII hook up to download the vehicle security code. According to RPI, swapping ECU could render them both inoperable and needing reset.

However, when I did it I experienced no such problem. But I switched mine in a parking lot across from the dealer such that if I had a problem they could plug in and fix it.

Changed ECU today. Idle normal, finally. I hope this has finally solved the problem. A word of caution to all (none of you are probably this stupid) don't ever let anyone clean your engine without some guarantee in writing that they won't destroy your electrical components. I have learned my lesson the hard way. I did geat a great deal on the ECU!

Jordan

Keep us posted. I've had my high idle go away and return to normal for over a week, and then it suddenly rears its ugly head again.

Been at least a week. So far so good with new ECU. Idling at factory setting with no jumps at this point. Very happy with slightly used ECU off 99 disco with approx 12000km. Thank god this mess is finally dealt with!
