Check to see if you are getting spark. If its not even turning over then it is probably your starter. You can try to jump the starter to see if that will make it turn.

Check the relay to the fuel pump. Go down some posts for the link.

If you get no starter solenoid action at all - it's not the fuel pump relay, or cutoff switch.

Some problem between ignition and solenoid. Try placing a screwdriver across the solenoid + battery terminal and side terminal - see if it turns over. If so, then problem is before solenoid, if not, then solenoid is probably the issue. (this is assuming that the battery is good which it sounds like it is)

you need to get a land rover manual and runs the tests in there.

when you turn the key over but are yet to crank, have someone stick there ear back buy the fuel pump and see if they can hear it running (priming)

that might give you an idea if it's fuel related, i think it's not.

after that you will need to run the tests in the manual for electrics.

i had a similar breakdown and it was my amplifier module. so if you want to keep this cheap i suggest doing the test. or you might end up replacing things that aint broke

do you have the manual? i can email you the required pages if not

Bill - This sounds handy, can you explain the solenoid by pass again. "Try placing a screwdriver across the solenoid + battery terminal and side terminal - see if it turns over" So I reach down to the starter solenoid ( hard to get to right ?) and use a screwdriver to connect the solenoid + post to what ? I don't see a side terminal on the side of the starter, is this the spade connector point you are reffering to ? Thanks.

Your solenoid has the large + battery cable terminal and smaller side posts - all that is needed is to "jump" those two connectors.

Yes - it will spark and you might weld a screwdriver or two - but it is a quick way to check the starter and solenoid.

There is a safety switch on the brake pedal that will not allow the car to start without first depressing the brake pedal. If the switch is bad the car will not start. Disconnect the two wires from the switch and tape them together. If the switch was bad it should now start.

Mine was doing this exact same thing. I found out last night that the ignition relay had a loose connection, I would have found it sooner but some previous owner had swapped the order in which they were arranged underneath the steering column. Worth a try. Good luck.
