What's this? The power seat moves in every direction except backward? It is only the passenger seat in my 97 Disco. Any clues???

yep. most likely one of the contacts inside the seat controls needs cleaning. rob davison has a link on how to properly do this. don't just crack open the seat control. lots of little springs and balls in there to lose. but that is most likely the case. |

Try just contact cleaner first - spray it in through the switch openings while you work the switches. This may not work, but is fast and simple to try. Bill |

If your auto parts store has brake cleaner, they should have electrical contact cleaner. Or a hardware store. I ended up taking both my switches apart and cleaned all the contacts with an eraser and or/Q-tip and contact cleaner. If you do that, get one of those plastic storage trays - the ones that are about 3 or 4 inches deep, but about 18" X 24" on the sides. |

I too pulled mine apart and cleaned the cuntacts, to reassemble you may need some dielectric grease to hold the ball bearings atop the springs! somewhere there are pics on how to do so, i'll look for the instructions! Peter. |

The same thing just happend to my 2000 SDII. This was the driver's side. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the switch but it did not work. Now I am waiting for a new motor for the seat. The seat moves all direction except forward and backwards. Can you belive the damn dealer did not have the part in stock. Seven to ten days to get the motor. Maybe because I didnt buy it there they just dont give a sh**. |
