I would like to get my CB off the passenger seat and put it someplace permanently. I have lots of that HEAVY DUTY 3M plastic velcro tape from Boaters World. I was wondering if it might hold my CB on the passenger side of the transmission case? My CB is 2.25x7.25x7.875 abd weighs 3.1#, so it is not one of those tiny lightweight models. Do you think it would hold?? That is where it was originally mounted until it fell off (the screws were only into the carpet, not into anything solid). I have the mic mounted to the the little change drawers which is convenient b/c I can move it to either side if necessary. I like the CB mounted on the passenger side except for the huge cupholder makes visibility almost impossible. Has anyone else had similar problem?? How did you solve it?? Thanks, Jamie |

Yes, it will hold it I had a decnt size scanner up under my drivers side knee for a few years, and I covered the entire top with that velcro...never had a probem. The CB im sure weighs waaayyyy less Joshua |

Thanks Joshua, then I'm going to try that. I might even put it on the drivers side for better visibility if I can figure out how to get the wires to the other side of interior transmission cover. What did you mean when you said you "covered the entire top"? Thanks, Jamie |

I would think it would start to come off if doing some good off roading. Just do it right and mount it with a proper mount or use screws. This is a good option.
Or this, unless you have sunroofs.

Thanks, I agree with you. I do have sunroofs -- too bad, I think the pic of mount on top looks great!! I decided I want to mount it on the dash top, where I can see it, even though it is not going to look real good there. Besides that, when it was on the side of transmission tunnel the switches accidentally would get moved (dingbat installer mounted it to the carpet and it fell off quickly!!) I just posted how to do that question on Disco Tech section. I am hoping someone will know where I can drill screws up there. Thanks again!! |

Jumping in late, here, but those newer Scotch fastner strips will hold it. They are 3m as well. I put an alarm clock on my overhead console with the stuff and it gripped so damn tight I am afraid I won't be able to get the clock back down without breaking it. They make a snap noise when they close, And would probably be fine for a CB. You could hold a bowling ball up there with this stuff. Cheers, Kennith |

after a while heat will make the sticky, gooey stuff less sticky and a heck of alot more gooey. we used several differnt kinds of velcro for our radar units on the cruisers and without fail after a year or so it becomes a mess. just something to thinks aboot... mike w |

Jamie, If you are interested in the CB mount that attaches to the side of the center console let me know. I designed and manufactured them and I have a few left. They are $20.00 including S/H. Of course, 5% would go to DWeb. Regard, Chris Mudy_ovl |

Hmmm... Didn't think about it that way, Mike. I suppose heat would eventually get through any kind of glue. Cheers, Kennith
