So this past weekend I went up a trail in northern Utah to camp and hike. The trail was steep on and off and quite rocky and muddy in spots. I ran in 1st and 2nd gear with my cdl in low locked position. No problems driving up the mountain, but, coming down the next day it would stall when the truck idled down as I was slowing down or stopping. When the truck was rolling it would be fine, but when I came to a rock and slowed to creep over it the engine would bog down and stall. I was headed down hill and the truck ran fine on the road to and from the trail. I thought I rattled something loose but the engine checked out. It's a 95 D1 and has a 4 month old stepper motor. Any ideas? Is my idle just to low? The engine is in time, but it is on the low side of the adjustment range. |

Andy - remember when this happened to Jake? In his case it was a torn intake duct. Another possibility is the VSS. |

I stopped checked and everything on the engine and all was secure with no obvious problems. VSS, I didn't think of that one, is there a test for it? I do know it ran fine after I was off the trail and back on the highway in unlocked high, and hasn't had any problems running today to work. I swear if this is another hugh problem that going to cost a boat load of money to fix, I might get rid of this truck for a newer one. Hey Curtis, want to sell your d2? |

Andy - I don't know of any other way to check it except for replacement, but someone else might. LOL - nope - the DS2 is not for sale. I just had a great weekend of wheeling and horseback riding just south of the Uintas. Actually got to wheel with the guy who bought Keiths red Series rig. We sure had fun and did some trails that taxed the Series and really made me appreciate my own rig If you want to play hookie, Ed & I are going on a ride here in the next little while. |
