Having problems with my A/C. 97 Disco. The A/C is blowing warm in stop and go traffic and Cool to Cold on the freeway. Had the A/C looked at last year and was told it was over charged. Just had it looked at again and was told it was over charged again. Whats up with that?? Anyway the other problem is that the driver side is blowing cool and the passenger side is blowing warm. Any ideas why that would be.

quick test, hood shut a/c on spray a liberal amont of water into the grill. if the a/c magicaly starts to cool you have a heat exchange problem like a bad fan clutch or mud/dirt in the condensor or between it and the radiator. would look like an overcharged system with a high head pressure. assuming both your electric condensor fans are working properly.

The condensor fans are working and the radiator fan does not free wheel.

The same thing happened to my 2000 SDII. The passenger side was hotter than the driver. The system needed charging. You could also check to see if the drain plus is not clogged. Under the passenger side of the car. Try moving the nipple to see if it draining properly.

Richard,

I am experiencing the same problem and I was told by the dealer to have my radiator roded. The explanation he gave me was that the radiator could have some hot spots causing the system to think its hot and shutting down the compressor. If you've notice the AC works fine at highway speeds because the incoming air cools the radiator enought to keep the hot spots from occuring. I am going to take my radiator and have it roded. I'll let you know if this fixes my problem. By the way my car does not show to be overheating at all, the temp gage stays a bit lower than midway the entire time!!!

what about "stinky A/C"? My old Lexus ES300 has this problem too. I was told maybe it was because I smoke in the car. But anyhow, the air stinks in the car, but gets better after a few minutes. Is the worst when you first turn on the A/C.

Where the Hell are these A/C nipples that get clogged I keep hearing about??? My passenger footwell gets soaked with water and I can't figure out where the hell it's coming from. I've heard people say to drain the A/C nipples but I don't know where the hell they are!

On a seperate note, my A/C blows plenty cold at highway speeds and not quite as cold in stop and go traffic. I don't think this is too uncommon, however I've noticed some "condensation???" leaking out of the vents from time to time. It sort of looks like faint smoke. Anybody have any info on this??? Temp needle usually stays pretty level and rises slightly on inclines. When I've seen the "condensation?" it hasn't been reading hot or unusually high. What gives???

Had the same problem. Mud coated my AC and radiator, (Almost over heated my car). After cleaning the mud off the AC worked great. (Also car never ran hot again either.)
