I recently bought a 94 Discovery, I have been checking the transmission fluid. This is what happens. In neutral or park at operating temperature the level is above the top mark(overfilled) After the vehicle is cold, before operating temperature, the level barely touches the stick(about 1/4 " on the stick) After warm up, it is back over the top mark(about 5 minutes). Question During the first few minutes before complete warm up the fluid is at the lowest level. Should this be the level I fill at or at operating temperature? Is excessive fluid pumped from the sump during these first few minutes? |

For a 95 the shop manual specifies (after a fluid change) 1) start the motor, 2) move transmission to 1st gear then back to park, and 3) check level. The dipstick states check when cold and in neutral which you can also see on the diagram in the shop manual. Kind of confusing. I've been checking mine cold and in neutral since I've bought the truck. |
