happy monday! looking at the 03 disco. have and love our 94 lwb now but have never felt safe at highway speeds (especially emergency lane changes) and have always loved the light tan leather seats w/the dark piping trim on new rovers. new headlights have made the 03 disco even more tempting.

i'd be interested in any feedback on the active cornering enhancement option. is this option available in the hse version only?

i'm leaning towards vienna green. will i have a tougher time selling it like a boston green m3?

interior trim options. does the silver trim package look cheesy? does the burled walnut trim look like plastic? i should probably just go to a dealer and see for myself.

deals on new ones: i'm thinking of a vienna green/hs/alpaca beige int/rear seat package/active cornering which prices at $43.7k on line. what's invoice and how much over invoice is reasonable?

deals on used ones: for a similarly equipped 03 disco, whats a good price for one w/5-10k miles?

sorry for the flood of questions. i know answers to many of my questions are a matter of personal choice and don't mean to start an arguments.

The ACE is great when it works and while you have the warranty. I'm thinking about having mine taken out when the warranty expires if it is possible. The ACE is available in the SE and HSE models. The wood looks real to me, but I would go look at one. As far as invoice prices, they will come down a little, but not a lot. If you plan on doing much offroad wait for the 04's with the CDL.

From what I understand, the HSE trim is not available with the Vienna green color in many regions, so you'll want to check with your dealer about that. The 03's really do ride and handle a lot better and if fact, ACE may not be necessary. Take a test drive and see what you think. Many dealers are knocking huge discounts on the Disco's, so you may be able to score a good deal. I would also recommend that you add the cold weather package to your list as the heated windshield is worth it's weight in gold.

You might be able to get a great deal on a 03 from bvlr.com. When I was looking they had the best prices.

I absolutely agree that the light beiege with contrast piping is the best interior bet.

I have a 00 Disco II with ACE and cold weather package.I wouldn't recommend the ACE as although it improves handling it tends to be noisy and could cause service nighmares as well.If you do care a lot about handling get it with ACE as diabling ACE is a simple process from what I understand, just change the serpentine belt and the sway bars.As Junehan has mentioned the cold weather pacakge is a great option.

I'm certain that the 03 is a lot better in handling than the Disco II from prior years.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Raj

Chris, June, and Raj thanks for the advice. I'm not liking the ACE reliability warning signs already. Even w/the warranty, it's that time your car's in the shop is what's torture. Do Land Rover dealerships usually give LR loaners if you schedule in advance? I'll have to test drive one w/and w/out ACE and have everyone brace before I have my wife yell 'deer!'.

I live in San Francisco and never thought heated seats were a must even with the convertible I gave up to open a biz. However, everyone I talk to about heated seats around here now say they can't live without them.

I was only looking at the HSE trim as the rear seat and ACE option on the SE trim pushed the price right up to the HSE level w/the same options. I found invoice pricing on msn. I'll check out bvlr.com.

On the msn reviews, lots of owners commented on the doors not opening wide enough. It's odd that it's not mentioned on the edmunds reviews. The disco is so popular w/moms that I don't think it will be a deal breaker.

What I like about vienna green so much is that it makes the disco look like a classic military vehicle. If it's availability is limited, it might be a bad option in terms of resale. My last three cars have been black so maybe I'll stick with that.

thanks again!
Ivan

Ivan, as far as what loaners most dealers will give you depends. My Centre tries to loan out their Freelander and Disco's whenever they are available, but will always set you up with an Enterprise Rental car if a loaner is not available. You'll also want to keep in mind that most dealers will only loan or rent you a car if you bought the vehicle from them, so keep that in mind when you start shopping for a Disco. You'll probably need to look around, but HSE's are probably going to be hard to find around this time of year as not many of them are ordered in that trim. Java Black paint is also an extra cost option on the Discovery, so you'll have to pay a bit more if you want a black Disco.
