Well, now I'm getting somewhere. DAP (distributer for Bearmach discreet winch mount) had a 'bad batch' of mounts, but they (and Bearmach) were very good about it, UPS'ing a new mount from England. Got the stock bumper cutting done. Very interesting work, as of course there are no instructions, guides, templates, etc (yes, I know about the Disco2 'How To', but it didn't apply for a few reasons.) Next is locating the Warn remote box - I think I'll mount it up front on top of the stock bumper and hope it doesn't restrict radiator air flow too much. If anyone is considering the DAP / Bearmach discreet mount, I'll be full of suggestions, as well as a cutting template for the stock front bumper. I'll post a pic in a few days after is is wired up. How about making a tech article? Sounds like an interesting project. At the least could you take before and after measurements to see if there is any degredation in ground clearnace/approach angle? I have been considering one of these since I dont have $600+ for a winch bumper and I like the fact that air bag system isn't impacted. Thanks and keep us posted! |

Does anyone know if you can use the discreet winch mount with the Bearmach steering protector plate/guard? Thanks Charles |

Sorry, I missed the earlier problems. I am interested because I bought one of their mounts but have never fitted it. I contacted Bearmach about cutting template but they didn't have one. What was the trouble with the mount? Jeremy Parkhouse Dhahran, Saudi Arabia |

<<what>> They start with a flat piece of metal, then punch the mounting holes and wire rope slot. Then it is bent in a U shape. The problem was the plate was put in the bending machine upside down. I think I will do a tech article for those considering the Bearmach. It is really quite nice. The knock against it is that it doesn't sit as high as most bumper mounted winches. I live in the desert, and mud is not a factor. I think some might be suprised that it actually sits a tad higher than the factory cross brace it replaces, so approach angle is actually slightly better. I took the cutting opportunity to trim off the air dam as you'll see in future pics. Keep in mind that the Warn 9000 is the largest that will fit in this space, so I'll be carrying a snatch block just in case. I've had the bumper off and on at least 20 times doing trimming, and deciding about the remote box mounting spot. Hopefully I'll save at least one person a bunch of thought, aggravation, cutting, etc. I will provide a template so that you don't have to cut what you don't need to cut. This is really going to look cool in a non-macho sort of way, and will work with the best, I think. John F Las Vegas, NV |
