Any one taken their roof rack off? My stock roof rack is in need of repair, replacement or just removal but I don't want to start taking the cieling fabric off and mess up the whole deal. Has anyone done this or have any pictures from a shop manual? Oh 95 discovery thanks |

you need to drop the whole head liner, and theres huge holes left behind where each support was, probaly 1.25 inches |

You do not need to drop the headliner - just remove the overhead console, grab rails, sun visors and you can snake in a long 3/8" extension with a universal and unscrew the nuts. Will only take about an hour this way including putting all the stuff back on. The underlying small diameter holes can be filled with silicone caulk and then the large outer roof skin holes can be filled with blanking plugs - I used chrome faucet handle plugs which where just a bit large, but had tabs that could be bent to fit the hole size better. I put a some caulk on the underside of the blanking plug before installing - just enough to seal it, not so much that it oozes out all over your roof. Bill |

Kyle, are you asking about removing the roof rails or a roof rack? - Axel

i want to take the whole unit off my roof, the metal is oxidized so i'm going to see if i can buff it out and repaint it then put it back on or I'll just get an aftermarket rack and seal the holes from the stock rack. Thanks for the help this is much better to know i may not have to drop the whole liner. |
