I replaced my rear brake pads today, and noticed the rear rotors are a bit worn, not too much but enough that I will consider it in about a year or so. I just replaced the gear oil in the 3rd member, and from what I could see, I must empty that oil again (or have it leak all over me when I pull the driveshaft out to get to the rotor?)in order to change the rotors, is this correct?

Brian,

You'll only lose a little bit of gear oil when you pull the axles - usually not enough to worry about.

Brian, you can always lift the end of the axle you're working on, just enough for the oil not to leak out.

I'm in the process of ordering parts for rear breaks: rotors and pads. Can I mix cross drilled rotors on the rear with OEM rotors on the front.
Just inquiring to night about Raybestos pads and rotors for a 97 D1. rear pads $76 cdn. The Raybestos store (garage) is to call me back with a price on the there OEM replacement rotors.

OEM rear pads are $29.70 cdn set of $4.
OEM rear rotors are $61.20 cdn each.

Has any one installed Brutestop rotors?
Or recommend a cross drilled rotor that is available in B.C.

Brian, I'm not sure about the D1, but on my D2 I recently replaced rear pads and rotors and it was a very simple matter that didn't involve any axle fluid. They simply slip off the axle and studs, and new ones slid on.
