Does anyone have any experience with supercharging their Disco. I just recently got a 97 Disco, I'm not looking to win any drag races here- (well maybe I am) but it seems kinda doggy in acceleration. We do a lot of LA fwy driving and I'm looking for fwy merging and passing power here more than anything. I've got an oppertunity to get a Rimmer Supercharger complete for about $3K, any thoughts. BTW my Disco has 61K miles and is an automatic SE7

I'd suggest doing a search on this topic. There's alot of good info available since it's been discussed several times.

If its the same supercharger Lance tried to sell I think everyone has had the chance to buy it :-) There are a ton of threads in the archives about Superchargers..

There are a couple of places that sell kits in OZ I'll post some links later.

Instead of the supercharger you might want to try 4.11 gears, 3 inch exhaust with a good flow through muffler, K&N and a Power Chip from Rover Connection. This will give you all the freeway power you need and a much better 0-60. Also wont cut your engine life in half.

Thanks for the input. I have Vortech in my back yard, they've sent me to a couple shops that can give me what I want. I've already done a 3" exhaust and a power chip, still didn't give me much more. As for 4.11s I think this will cut into the top-end to much, would be great if I weren't using it at fwy speeds, you know 80-85+. Also, I did a search on this site and only came up with a yellow arizona boom-box on wheels, kinda cool but totally useless in the real world. Anyway I digress, as far as cutting my engine life, I have a 93 Ranger 4.0L with a S/C on it with over 260K miles and it still runs like a raped ape. More than anything it's how you take care of it, and not abuse it. Until next time...

Ahh...memories of the infamous Lance post. Damn, those were good times...

ASisson, if the description for the Rimmer Supercharger includes any mention of a "trick" supercharger, or "tricked-out" power (as in "your truck will be so trick with this supercharger...wish I didn't have to sell it") run away...this guy got severely and deservedly flamed months ago for trying to pull a fast one...

just my .02

If you have a super charged Range Rover with 260k and a 4.0 why are you asking advise on a Disco same engine same trannie same results. I was just curious do you go off road because it sounds like your willing to spend money on your toys but you havent figured out the advantage of gears. You are right it does cut your top speed from 118 to 106. Boy this difference really bothered me 5 inches of lift at 106mph yahooo / Splat.

Sorry, Ranger is a little Ford hauler. Yes, I haven't had the opportunity to off road much, and you're right I don't have a problem spending money on my toys. Tho I'm more familiar with big block, big torque. So when I run 4.11s it is usually at a much higher cost to not only top end but also drivability (like much higher rpm). You're also correct as I don't know much about gearing these vehicles. That's why I'm here. Also the Rimmer I was looking into is in Ausie and doesn't say anything about "your truck will be so trick..."
It seems the only way to get big power gains is by S/C. Also more for the money. Maybe, these motors aren't stronge enough or don't give that much in power gain when S/C'd, although I here tell about 115-135 hp and 150 lbs torque, that makes it worth while if the motor is strong enough. Maybe I'm wrong...

i believe that Jake is implying that with a 5" lift (like the one on his truck) 106mph is simply absurd!!!!
land rovers aren't top fuelers (dragsters), at speeds above 70, i know i start sucking leather.
