I have found a 95 discovery I think I can get a good deal on, but it has a ticking noise in the motor after warm up. When the motor gets to operating temp a ticking sound comes from the passenger side of the motor. Does this sound like carbon? It has the 3.9 motor with 80,000 miles on it. I don't think the noise is coming from the manifold or collector gasket.

If it is Carbon will SeaFoam cure it or will the heads have to be rebuilt?

Also where do you get seafoam? I would like to get some for my other rovers. (If it really prevents build up)

If it is a carbon buildup issue you are looking at a valve job - at least $2000. Not sure on that year but alot of pre-DII had the problem - and even DIIs do - mine just did. Try to get a dealer to run the VIN number and see what service has been done. If no records exist and you really want the truck take it to a dealer and have them do a thorough inspection.

In the DII ticking means the rocker arms are bad.

Bottom line is you need an inspection by someone who knows about these vehicles. The good deal might not be such a good deal if it needs alot of repairs. Not trying to scare you but I have seen and heard of many problems with these. If you are a college student no way would I buy it - can cost you a ton to fix all the leaks etc.

good luck
