After tearing up the stock bumper on the trail, I've decided to install the Saudi-type bumper on my 99 DII. I'd considered going the ARB or SG route, but decided that I'm not quite ready to go nuts on my daily driver, yet. (bullbar, winch, suspension, etc...) Plus, I'm broke. :o) $400 for the saudi bumper will get me back in business with a little extra clearance. Anyway, to my question: Since I'll be losing my foglights when I install the saudi bumper, can I use the existing foglight wiring for aux. lights? Does anyone know any aux light models that might have the same power requirements? It would be nice to use the stock fog switch with after-market lights. Thanks for your help, Jim O. 99 DII |

Jim, Trashed my front bumper as well and went with the ARB (which is what you should do as well, there are a good amount of used bumpers in the "for sale" section and it seems to be better in the long run to get what you really want on the front side instead of purchasing twice). From what I can gather, you could wire up a light such as the Hella 500 (55w lamp I think) to the existing wiring harness utilizing the old fog light switch inside. Sorry I can't provide the tech side, but do a search for Hella 500's (I posted the same question just this week) and see what you can come up with. |

As long as you install similar wattage lights as were the stock lamps, you will be fine.. (eg 55watts) but if you jump to a 100w light I would rewire to a 10 guage wire or higher... if you are replacing with like wattage, its a very easy switch over... |

you can put any size light on there you want. Just use the existing wire to run a relay and have the relay run the lights. It's the best and safest way to do it. Also very easy to do. |

Thank you for the feedback. Question about the relay: I assume that the fog light line voltage would be used to control the relay. Would I then run a separate power line from the battery with an in-line fuse to actually power the lights? It's a good idea, I think. It keeps the installation pretty "clean." Thanks again. |
