I just got a set of QT diff guards from Discount Rovers. I have installed the rear one and have a question. Look at the picture below. I only have about 1 1/2 to 2mm of clearance between the guard and the rotoflex bolts. Is this normal? I put the spacer that came with the kit on. Do I need to try to space it some more? It's not rubbing now, but I'm worried that if I get some play in the rotoflex or bang a rock real hard that it might. Thanks Charles

Charles I had the same quandry, so I just filed a wee bit more clearance .. but then I took the whole works off because I got frustrated with the top of the diff mount plate. |

Yea the top mount plate was a pain to get on and bolted. I had thought about filing off the square top corner to get more clearance to the rotoflex. Charles |

If your rotoflex ever blows (had two blow up on me), you will be bangin' that guard like mad. Look at it this way, you'll definitely know if it starts to go! |

Strange? On my 03 DII the rotoflex bolts face forward and the place where you put the spacer is where the harmonic donut bracket is located. Maybe the QTs fit the DIIs easier? We didn't have problems on installing the QTs like you guys. Maybe QTs don't fit the DIs vs the later models? |

Yea its different on a DII. The directions said to make sure that it did not rub, and it did not. But it is very close. I might check about switching positions on the nuts and bolts on the rotoflex. Charles |

Oops, I looked under the vehicle again while there was still light and the rotoflex bolts alternate 3 forward and 3 backwards. MY MISTAKE! Anyway check on the spacer plate it may not be as thick as the donut bracket. Maybe a couple of washers between the guard and spacer place to widen the gap from the rotoflex bolts? |

I thought about putting washers also. I was afraid that it could put a lot of strain on the bolts if I got up on something. The spacer spreads the load out. All this is just speculation on my part though. Charles |

I purchased QT Services Diff Guards in August of 2002 for my 1995 Range Rover Classic SWB, that also has the rotoflex. I had the same problem with clearance, using the QT Services supplied spacer plate for the rotoflex installation. I shimmed with stainless steel washers to get about 1/8 inch of clearance, but I only had about 1 1/2 to 2 threads of engagement. I found out that the bolts supplied are Whitworth threads, and not Metric threads. Whitworth bolts are not easy to find, and I was concerned about replacement if I lost or broke one. I drilled and tapped 1/2-13 UNC in the rear differential. I also drilled the holes larger in the diff guard and the spacer plate. I used 1 1/2 inch long stainless steel bolts, washers and lock washers. The front diff guard was thicker than the steering damper bracket. So for ease of replacement if I lost or broke one, I also drilled out the front differential and diff guard, and used 1 1/2 inch long stainless steel bolts, washers, and lock washers too. Hope this helps, Jim |
