I'm curious whether there's a simple method to determine whether the vacuum pump is working properly. My cruise control isn't working and the hoses seem fine. Does the vacuum pump run whenever the vehicle ('97 DI) is started? If I look in the engine compartment, on the driver side near the firewall, I see wiring entering the back of what I believe to be the vacuum pump. What is the easiest way to access the pump? Thanks (again!) in advance for any help you can offer. |

If the '97 Disco is like the RR classic, and the hoses are O.K., the problem may be the spiral casette inside the steering wheel. It usually gets ruined when a tire shop tries to align the front wheels and takes off the steering wheel to put the steering wheel in the correct position. I had a local independent Rover shop fix mine. They can quickly tell you if its the pump, casette or brake switch. |

Do a search on cruise control repair, I had a write up about it and what I had to do to repair mine. I was lucky, no parts required but about an hour and a half of time. Unless they changed the design from 96 to 97 the vac pump for the CC is under the jack behind the driver side headlight Mike G. 96 Disco SD |
