When changing spark plugs, the maual warns against "cross-thredding' the plugs. What exactly does this mean? -Thanks in advance

Basically, putting them in crooked and forcing them in with the wrench. Easy to do if you don't screw them in by hand 4 or more turns. I usually hand tighten as far as I can, about 8 turns, then apply the wrench. Don't forget the anti-sieze coating on the treads. |

Thanks for the information regarding the plugs. Also,regarsint-sieze coating, I have been to many hardware stores and could not find 'anit-sieze'. Is this a particualr brand or the same thing as WD40, PB Blaster, etc? |

No, it's not a particular brand. Permatex makes the stuff, among others. Sometimes it's packaged together with a tube of di-electric silicone. It's usually a coppery or a silvery color, and has a paste-ish consistency. -L

Just replaced my plugs on 97 D1. Used Thread-Magic spark plug anti-seize made by AGS. Bought at Canadain Tire. Made in the USA. Silver colour paste. Rub on threads like a crayon. Essential on aluminum heads. |
