I thought I'd previously posted this but I can't find note in the forum.

The Land Rover Chronicle.com is showing scanned images taken from Autoweek of the Series III Discovery and aspects of it are quite a departure from the previous style.

Here's the links to photos:

Looking forward to hearing what the group concensus on the new look.

I don't know WTF Ford is trying to do with the discovery. First of all, it looks hideous and looks like someone was smoking crack when they designed it. Secondly, it looks like a baby range rover. The reason I bought a disovery is that it looks different from a range rover, and has it's own style. Now your just going to be buying a smaller range rover with half as less off-raod capabilities as the previous one. You might as well buy the X5 or a Cayenne which are a lot better cars. I wouldn't be surprised if Land Rover goes bankrupt from the shitting cars their be producing. And another thing, will the new discovery depreciate 500 dollars a month as the range rover. Personally I'm going go to europe and I'm going to buy a current defender with a turbo diesel and ship it back to the u.s.. That is the only true off-road vehicle from land rover today.

you cannot import current defenders. any motor vehicle brought into the united states must meet or be updated to meet united states dot safety standards. and doing that to a current defender in addition to the cost of shopping it here, would be pretty expensive. that is actually why land rover does not sell defenders here anymore...they did not want to fit the trucks with the safety devices required by the us gov...you can, however import older defenders...the model year trucks that were available for sale here.

but all that aside, i agree.

Has anyone written to Land Rover and expressed their opinion about the new look?

I dont know if it ever reaches the designers hands but at least I got a real email back from them. (Not the Auto Responder)

I really love the look of the current Disco and would hate to see it drasticly altered for something so boxy.

What do you all think/

I for one couldn't care less about it's looks (okay... I do care but not that much). If it would make a good trail vehicle. I'm one who likes the G-Class so boxy is not an issue. Even the Defender isn't a curvaceous beauty. It's beauty lies under the skin. From what I know of the new Disco there is nothing of beauty under that plastic facade.

I don't think the new look is as bad and once they are out on the street I really think the look will grow on most people. You have to remember, most people don't like the look of the Disco now. As for Ford and their influence on styling...it doesn't look anything like a Ford but the interior looks cheap with the silver plastic pieces on the dash, very Xterra looking and the interior looks a little smaller than the current Disco.

Big question though, how is going to look with aftermarket accessories? Brush guards, roof racks, lifts and larger tires?
