Hey guys - I changed my front and rear diff fluids tonite and was surprised to find a significant amount of what appeared to be graphite or metal powderish type material in the fluid at both ends. There was a fair amount of the stuff stuck to the magnet on the diff plugs. My Disco II only has about 25,000 miles on it. There was no water contaminating either end. Is this a normal issue for the synthetics in the DIIs? My buddy uses regular gear oil in his and has never noticed anything like this. I am heading on a 10000 mile trip with the truck in 5 days! How freaked out should I be? Thanks for the help. Jay |

Jason - don't freak out about your trip - they will last awhile yet! But, if yours are like mine (D1) - then that is a sign of the beginning of the end. Both front and rear on mine wore the spider gears into the side of the diff case - literally self-recessed themselves about .008-010" - this was within 60K for both diffs - rear went at about 35K if I remember correctly.
