Hello All,

I know I asked this question already, but I really didn't get the answer to my question.

Is there a relatively easy way to determine if the vacuum pump is working on my '97 DI? My cruise control is out and I suspect it's the vacuum pump. Does it run all the time? Do I have to remove it to determine if it's functioning?

Thanks in advance

take it out of the hole behind the headlight and pop off the oval shaped cover on the front of it. Inside are Three wire posts. Connect a small wire to the ground post and connect it to an available ground (there's one on the inside fender in front of the air filter housing). Connect another wire to the positive battery (12v) and touch the other end of that wire to the post on the pump. The valve inside the pump should open and close when you touch the post. That will tell you the pump is working right. It won't tell you whether or not the wiring to the pump is ok but it will rule out replacing the pump.

How does one get it out of the hole? It's a small place to work ( big fingers) and it seems as though it is bolted on somehow. . .
