I just changed out my spark plugs and wires, and now I hear an occasional snapping sound. Making same pop as when popping bubble wrap. I checked my connections to plugs and ignition, all are tight. I did have a bit of a problem with the 3rd wire on the driver side of the block, I bent the connection to the ignition, but I was able to adjust it and fit it properly. In case this information is needed here's what I installed: Magnecor 8mm wires & Champion Copper RN12YC plugs. All the wires are in their proper places, I installed the plugs and wires one at a time to besure nothing was connected in the wrong order. Anyway, I'd appreciate your help and suggestions. Thanks Chris |

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I haven't seen any check engine light or anything light that. Also, the truck runs pretty smooth and drives just fine. Chris |

Chris, I'm having the same problem but with a few more symptoms. The snapping came from a relay underneath where the glovebox is. It should be a yellow relay on the bracket which is located 2nd from the last one. It is called Interlock relay #2. However, my vehicle seems to idle very low after the relay starts snapping. Going to the dealer tomorrow and will let you all know what I found out. Bob "Mac" |

Chris, when does the pop occur? When first starting, or intermittently? When lights come on? When you go over a bump? It seems like there might be some action which predicates the noise... You might try checking each of the connections from wire to plug and making sure the ceramic on one hasn't broken. I replaced my wires with 8mm Magnecors and Platinum2s a few months ago and no pops. Not that this would cause the popping, but did you rub each plug with anti-seize compound before reinstalling, as well? Chris B

Chris, the pop occured after I had started the truck and it was idling in the drive way (hadn't moved it at all). I pushed down on all the connections - both ignition and spark plug - and it seems to have stopped. So I'm thinking that one was loose. I had a problem with my third wire (third from the front of the engine on driver's side) reaching the ignition. I was able to adjust it so that it would fit, but barely. The popping has stopped and truck runs smoothly. I am concerned about the wires on the driver side of the engine, they didn't fit in the little plastic keepers near the ignition that held the wires. The wires did fit in the clips on both sides of the block. Oh and yes I did rub anti-seize on the plug threads. Chris |
