My mirror started the oil settling routine over the weekend and now resembles one of those desk top oil and water "relaxing waves" devices. I have found the replacement part for around $250 including shipping. Is there a NON-Electric replacement I can use? Ron Ward |

Ron - not sure what year yours is, but my '91 has a manual mirror (original). Bill |

It's a 1995 Classic with the auto dimming mirror with two map lights. |

Saw a post from a, a,, ? Monte Carlo chevvieman site that had pix of a 2lite mirror head; $25 from dealer-new-I believe. CIPA and Donnelly have websites for the $230-250 items. |

Had same problem on my 90 Range Rover and found an almost identical unit on a mid 90's cadillac. Rover mirror is a GM unit. Had same connectors on back of mirror. I slipped it on the windscreen, plugged it in, and voila. |

Did you have to pull down the headliner to get to the plug? Mine needs replacing but I really don't want to have to mess with the headliner. |

Nope...plug-in is on backside of mirror itself. I think there was a cable tie fastening harness to gimbal assembly though. I was going to grab one from a Ford Exploder when I noticed the GM unit. All that the plug supplies is the voltage so I was going to cut the harness off of the donor vehicle to splice into mine. All the electronics for dimming feature are inside the mirror. So really you could use one off of any kind of vehicle as long as you can cut & splice. |
