I know this won't apply to may of you folks without a distributor...

Are there any tricks to replacing the advance module? While replacing the cap & rotor over the weekend I found that my vacuum module doesn't hold vacuum!

It looks like a couple of small acrews & an e-clip are all that are involved.

Spot on! I found it easier to take out the whole distributor - but mark where the distributor is in relation to the engine block and where the rotor arm is pointing as getting it back correctly is a fiddle.
Then it is 2 screws and a small circlip, if I remember correctly.
Good luck!

Don't loose those two Torx screws, and be careful not to knock the backing nuts out of the housing - they don't seem to be 3 or 4mm!

I recently had to drill over and rethread to 4mm when one of mine stripped out. You cannot easily buy the mounting collar (curved flange), gasket or screws so just keep those little guys guarded!

$.02 after three days of phone calls, emails and a visit to the dealer...

Thanks guys!

I have my grease pencil ready to mark the relative positions of the rotor and distrib body, so I'll just yank it out and replace the bits on the bench.

Centrifugal advance or vacuum? They are both pretty easy to do in place. I found some place in the vendors that sold all the little plastic bits in a rebuild kit. They tend to get brittle when old and I sacrificed a few taking it apart. I had the diaphragm for the vac advance replaced by a small engine guy. He only charged $30, but it was way more work than I'd want to take on, cutting, resealing and recrimping the whole diameter. Good luck.

I think I must start an export business! Reconditioned vacuum advance unit, off the shelf, fitted and tested on your own distributor (in South Africa, of course) about $12!! No worrying about lost parts and fiddling...
BTW, this is not the LR agent, but a small business specialising in distributor rebuilds.
