what about if there is a snorkel rubber hose where the trupet use to be. or does it make a difference.
so then i guess i can now drop a battery in there and just run it in parrallel?

This is what I did to mine Sorry the pic is rather small

I dont have a "round vacuum thingamajiggy" so it makes life a little easier, also my coil is mounted vertical. (This is a 1978 2dr rangie with a EFI conversion).

Ricky, jeez, your brake booster/MC are on the "wrong" side of the engine compartment! I have also been trying to figure out were to put a second battery and the problem with the NA-spec trucks is that there is just to much important crap on the left side of the engine compartment. But with all of that said, I think if I can find a way to move the PS reservoir just around the corner of the rad, I can fit a reasonably sized battery in there without removing the vacuum thingy (or "chummy" as is said in Cape Breton, NS). The other option is to set it up with two small batteries mount fore-aft in the right hand tray (kind of like some guys have done on Defenders). But that seems like a hell of a out-of-balance weight factor to throw in that corner of the truck.

I originally moved all that crap and installed dual full size batteries. Then I went with this setup:

I recently added a third 'auxilliary' battery in the rear for my fridge and 1800W inverter (for microwave and coffee maker) :-)

Ive got 2 Optimas in a classic RR, so you can do the same. Move the cruise vacuum (round thingy) up by the brake MC - it fits in just below there nicely. Then move the PS resivoir around the back of the radiator - the stock mount can be bent and cut to work perfectly. Snip and replace the PS hoses to the resivior and now you have tons of room - exactly as on the other side

I made a bracket to fit my pwr steering res next to rad. (very similiar to 300tdi disco). I guess the important stuff you are on about is the electrics that sit on top of the wing. Surely this could be moved and hung vertical? I forget that your trucks are built different (LHD), but on the other hand I guess you still have the 'same' electrical components that we have, except I guess ALL you guys run with AC where as we dont (uk). Do you have any pics of your problem area? I feel very curious.

Ricky:

Yes, I suppose some things could be changed slightly in position but in the case of my LWB its real tight even on the vertical surfaces of the inner wing. I unfortunately don't have a pic, but for example and front to back: PS res. and a holder for the block heater plug on the rad bulkhead, vaccumn thingie and aircleaner horn in the battery tray. Since mine is a LWB, shock tower is forward of the spring (could go to regular towers since I've converted to coils), then we have the coil and condensor, the vaccumn res. for the cruise, the ABS pump, the ABS control unit and accumulator pump, associated wiring harnesses for all this stuff. Then the firewall. To top it all off, you are then pretty restricted in the space between the inner wing and the engine by having both PS and auto trans. cooler lines, PS pump, alternator, headers, etc. It would actually be pretty simple if you could just easily move the PS res., but the only possiblity I have seen is a bracket on the rad, but the available mounting surface is too small for the exsisting PS res. mount and I would also be afraid of fracturing the rad tank at the point this bracket attaches if I put the PS res. on to it. But I sure am open to ideas, if anybody has a pic of what they've done on a NA-spec Rangie beyond the idea of two small batteries in the other tray.
