I was daydreaming today and was thinking what I would do with Land Rover technology if I was calling the shots at Ford. I got to thinking about the Defender and the Ranger and the possibilities of merging them. Take the frame, suspension, and drivetrain from the Def. and plop a Ranger PU body on top of it. It would have to have a Powerstroke Diesel of course. So whaddaya all think? I know the Defender has mystique but would you consider buying a Ford Ranger "Defender" Edition? |

While that would be pretty cool it would be highly unfeasable. Just imagine a motor creating 400 horsepower and 650 lb ft. of torque in a tiny truck. You would never keep running gear under the thing. You would eat so many diffs and twist so many drivelines that you could never recoupe the costs. But that would be one bad ass truck.

I should have specified that I ment the 2.8L Powerstroke. A very healthy 280 Ft. Lbs. of torque at 1400 RPMs. |

And since it would be a 'Ford Ranger "Defender" Edition' You could just call it the "Ford Danger" |

Jesse, I like that... "The Ford Danger! Were through playing with the competition!" Peter..."Land Rover Technology"... I was basically refering to the designs and practices exclusive to LR. When I was dreaming this up. I was basically thinking how Ford could jump into the H2, Rubicon market at a relatively low cost. Instead of spending big money on redesigning the Defender for US laws or a whole new vehicle just take the best of what they currently have. I think its at least concept worthy. I was thinking of pricing it competively with the Rubicon. Again it was only day dreaming. I don't even know if Ford is thinking of getting in the offroad market. |
