I am installing side steps on my 97 Disco. There is one mounting point already, but I need to drill another mounting point. Do I need a special drill bit to drill through the frame part under my truck for the bolting point? Anyone who has had experience with this please let me know. Or let me know if I can't do it myself and should go to a shop to have someone else do it with a special drill. Thanks! Eric |

A titanium tipped bit will go right through it. It's a very easy job to do yourself. Be very careful and go slow, don't let that bit grab as it exiting. |

Not that it makes any difference, but I think you will be drilling a hole in the outrigger on the frame, not the frame itself. If I recall correctly, you will remove the bolt for the body mount and put one side of the bracket there. The second hole goes into the outrigger. The metal on a Disco frame is nothing special. Any good drill bit designed for metal should do. You should be able to do this job yourself with no problems. Just my $.02. Email me if you need a picture. My Disco came with running boards, so I already have the holes drilled in mine. Mike (at) (Discocrazy) (dot) (org). Thanks, Mike B. |
