I am getting ready to go outside and begin to disassemble the back of my truck to attempt mounting of CB antenna to spare wheel.

I know I am getting ahead of myself by asking this -- but, I would like to get everything done I need to while the cargo door is taken apart. I'm trying to figure out what else I might need to do.

For example, I have Hella rear worklamp to be installed on rear roofrack back there. Will the wiring for that need to go thru the door too?

Thanks, Jamie

Lady, you're awesome! Where were you when I was looking for a wife? You're going to have the best-prepared, neatest, best engineered rig in the world if you keep doing what you're doing. Puts the rest of us to shame.

Happy trails and have fun in Moab.

Ray

Thanks for the compliment Ray. I'm way sure you are way better off with your wife. It would take a saint to put up with me - the guys I've known forever remind me of that frequently. No way I could ever put any of you guys to shame. I'm still in the kindergarten dept. Even when I do progress, I still think I'd like to remain the puppy following in the tracks of the rest of the pack :-) :-) The only reason my D2 has progressed is because the Dweb Big Dogs tell me what to do, what works and what doesn't. So really, they deserve the credit. I'm just reaping the benefit of their blood, sweat, tears, trial, and error.

Speaking of which, I don't know why so many people trash rover bulletin boards. Figure out who really knows what they are talking about, arm yourself with a good digital camera, and you're loaded for bear :-) (and even when you get suggestions from someone who does not have as much experience as some of the others, you still get a great opportunity to learn! :-)

Jamie,

I would suggest getting a panel removal tool before taking the door apart. Otherwise, plan a trip to the Dealer to buy some little red replacement panel clips at about $2 each. :-)

I would run the rear rack lighting along or through the rack to the front. If you go into the rear door, you run the risk of water getting into the cab via the wire. If you go to the front and down the A-Pillar fairing, any water will go into the engine compartment. Just my opinion.

Jamie,

NICE rig! With the door panel off, and things all amuck, you might want to take this opportunity to flip your spare carrier (if you haven't already). It'll give your spare a lil more clearance over the bumper.

I didn't do this when installing my CB Antenna, and broke even MORE of those damn clips when I went to larger tires and needed to take everything apart again to flip the carrier.

HTH

whoops: www.out-backeam.com

(and you don't have to invert your tire carrier to install it either)

...and, I would have to agree with Greg (above) when it comes to routing your rear rack lighting toward the front and down into the engine compartment. Unless your lighting it mounted on your door there is no secure, safe and tidy way to route the wires to the door and into the vehicel as the coax cable is on the Outback.

I spend some tiome trying to design this feature for my truck but it bacame an exercise of needing a bottomless cash box and exotic bulkhead connectors and I just abandoned the task. maybe in my next lifetime.

Wow, tht looks REALLY GOOD.

I sent all of my huge mess is up to the dealership with my truck. I included the antenna mount parts and a print out of the entire instructions and photos on Expedition Exchange website tech instructions.

As for the rear worklamp, I sent them that too with the relay. Again, I printed the text and photos from the EE Hella page that showed the double worklamp inverted from the "standard" mounting configuration on yellow disco.

Hopefully, the techs will figure it all out. If they run into trouble, I gave them the website addresses, contact names, and phone numbers of Expedition Exchange and Firestik.

My tire carrier HAD to be inverted when I went to bigger tires. There was no way it would fit on the back of my rover without turning it over. It just fits with carrier inverted.

Thanks again, Jamie
