I recently changed my plugs and wires with OEM parts.(Champion plugs and LR wires). This is on a 99 Disco 1 and here is the problem. After changing the plugs and wires I have a ticking noise that comes from the interlock relay #2. This will happen approx: 5-10 minutes after starting the vehicle up. After the ticking starts my RPM goes down and when I let off the gas or have to come to a stop it will almost stall on me. I recently also changed the VSS with no help and cleaned the IAC or stepper motor. The truck idles fine and runs fine as long as you have your foot on the accelerator. Does anyone have any similiar experiences or thoughts on what my problem is? Thanks again. Bob "MAC" |

Bob, My brothers '95 DI is/was doing the same thing. The knocking noise (i think) were the cams nipping each other, and as far as the RPM's go, i believe he said he had to have his idle timing set. Once again i am not absolutely sure, if you want, you can email me and i can find out for sure and drop you one back. Best of luck to you. |

Thanks Garrett for the input. However. the ticking is coming from the inside of the vehicle and is definitely a relay. No knocking here. My base idle has already been set by the dealer so that has been ruled out. I'm thinking maybe a TPS or O2 sensors but just a guess. Will post if I ever find out. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Personally & in my experienceI think that it would have something to do with the stepper motor. If it runs fine at speed, you are just having problems with the idle. Try this turn the large setter knob for the accelerator line. This may keep the truck from stalling. I would say if it runs fine but the idle is bad point to the stepper or vacuum leak. TPS maybe, 02 probably no. JB |

Thanks Joe for the input. I will try to pinpoint the problem this weeked. As for going to the dealer again I think I would have more fun being flogged with a cane by a military sargeant. Yesterday, I spent 105.86 at Land Rover Akron for a nothing. Oh wait a minute they washed my car!!!Hosed again. other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Bob "MAC" |

does this happen all the time or just intermitantly? when my 96 would stall out, the clicking would come from the purge valve for the charcoal canister. |

I have this same click click relay sound and the truck drops to low revs and often stalls when slowing down at low speed. the click sound is the check engine light coming on really quickly so you can hardly see the light on the dash. and then the stall sometimes. I was thinking battery problem as I have some blue on my positive terminal. But if there is any other advice I am all open. Also truck starts straight away after a stall. |
