Hey there,. I am unable to open the bonnet via the bonnet release lever in the cabin of my 2000 Disco2. I am pulling up on the lever to it's full extention... however, it seems to me that there may be to much slack in the line...and this is why it not unlatching. Is it 'take it to the dealer' time... or can someone offer some suggestions? Cheers! |

It's common for the latch to get out of adjustment. Try pushing down firmly on the hood while your buddy pulls the lever. Then pull up firmly on the hood (while your buddy is still pulling on the lever). Failing that, try pushing the hood back while your buddy pulls on the lever. It may take a bit of persuasion/fiddling to get the hood open using this method. When you finally do get the hood open, you can re-position the spring loaded gizmo on the under side of the hood to re-align it. There are just a couple of bolts holding it in place. There is also a cable adjustment screw on the end of the cable too. Good luck! Mike B. |

Scott, If you have to, looking up under the bonnet latch area from below there is what looks like a metal security plate that prevents you from getting to the latch. But its just plastic so it can be broken easily for access. But if its under warrantee get the dealer to do it. Or you could pull the cable with pliers, from just above the cabin lever area. |

I have the same problem: the latch does not release. I took it too the dealer and they want to charge $280 just for opening the hood (they have to be kidding!). How do you think the dealership gets the hood open? Note: this is the second time this has happened..and the first one was under warranty, this time not so lucky. |

On my '96, inside the cabin, I've unbolted the mounting for it. There was too much slack with mine. My excellent fix is to have it held up with a zip-tie and I pull it and it pops open just fine. It sits about 1inch further out than it does if you have it bolted in to position. Ridiculous design. |

Thanks everyone.. some very good suggestions! Will try these PRIOR to visiting my friendly dealer. Ha, these are the same folks that wanted to charge me nearly $300 for an extra key.. went down the road to the lock smith and had a copy made for $2! However-should still be under the warranty... ...BTW- pretty crafty dareDVL! |

I just went through this and worse, with my wife's 97 disco. To open the hood, undo the cable pull handle from its mounting bracket under the dash. Grab a hold of the wire with a pair of pliers (not the plastic sheath) and pull. If the cable did not come completely loose from the hood latch, this should open it. Then, from the top of the hood latch, you should be able to see the bolt which is used to adjust the cable. Loosen the adjustment and pull some of the cable to the left so that less of a pull is required to open the latch. Tighten the adjustment bolt, replace the pull handle on the mounting bracket and you should be set.

I had this exact same thing happen to my 2000 while it was under warranty. I took it to the dealer and they discovered that the problem was a screw had come undone inside the latch mechanism that was preventing the cable from operating like it was suppose to. They fixed it. No problems since. |
