I've been having overheating issues. Radiator has been taken very good care of for the past couple of years. The temperature gauge will read near high, shut the truck off, then restart, it only goes up half way. I'm hoping for the best here. If anyone can tell me or show me a picture, I'd sure appreciate it. I've got the RAVE manual but can't find a thing about this sensor other than it saying to check it if you're having overheating issues.. big help that is. Anyhow, thanks in advance.. RS

I think that it is on top near the thermostat. I see if there is a picture in my Haynes manual. Charles

The temperature sending unit is located at front of the engine right above the thermostat housing. There is also the Coolant Temperature Sensor that is to the right of the Temp sending unit. The Temp sending unit is the one with the smaller single connector, the Coolant Temperature Gage has a larger square connector. I was having similar problems to what you are describing and it ended up being my Viscous Unit that was bad, check it when the truck is cold and when its hot if its spins at the same rate more than likely you have a bad Viscous Unit or some type of electrical problem with the sensor or gage.

I just recently replaced viscous and fan, and have removed t-stat, and replaced water pump. Only other options I believe are bad sensor or clogged radiator. Although, when I pull the bottom hose off the radiator it drains in about 4-5 seconds, so I really don't think that is it. Thanks for your info.. keep the suggestions and info coming.. Later.>RS

I cleaned up the contacts on both sensors this evening. Anyone out there had experience with this before? I haven't given it a test run yet.. tomorrow will be a good test day though since I've got about 400 miles of driving to do.

Well, it seemed to. I'm now replacing the fan clutch again (with new), and then I'll pull the radiator lastly. My viscous seems to work sometimes and not at others. It sometimes spins easier when the engine is hotter than it did when it was cold. On one occasion only, it was nearly locked up when the engine was extremely hot. Cats were clogged badly though, and could not have been helping the situation any.

Still runs warm on occasion, waiting on the viscous to come via UPS still... so no final verdict yet :-(

To top things off, the wife's D2 manifold gasket crapped it's self, and she's sitting at the dealer awaiting replacement.
