96 SE7 - Transfer case is leaking a teaspoon of oil when I park, then it stops until the next time I drive. It doesn't look like the front oil seal? It looks as if it is leaking from the top side? Any thoughts?

Thanks.
Jim

Unless it's leaking loads, leave it alone and just check regularly and top-up as required. You may see there is no pattern to how much it looses per mile, mine can use up to half a litre in a thousand miles, then use only an egg-cup full in 3000. It may well "heal" up, Land Rovers are notorious for intermittent prblems that go away. Plus, a bit of clean gear oil being thrown about underneath is a good corrosion inhibitor.

Mine leaks and leaks, but onlya a couple of drops a day, I'm just to lazy to fix the problem. Anyway, how do you measure how much oil you have in the transfer case.

Mine leaks a couple of drops also between each drive-and-park cycle. I just top it off every 3000 miles.

Just topped it off last weekend and it needed less then 75ml so the leak is very minor.

I have a 97 and it also leaks. The disco is known to leak. Dont worry about it, just top it off like everyone else does. You are not alone.

Hi
My 98 doesn`t leak and neither should any Land Rover, that they do is just a fact of life.
The leak may be coming from the speedo drive as the O ring tends to leak.
Best of luck.

Agreed, Peter

I just took my 01 D2 to the dealer for the 45K service and some other problems like a leaky transfer case and a leaky rear diff.

Whenever I see a leak, I just kinda shrug my shoulders, but when it comes time to take the truck in, you'd better believe I'm having them fix that shit.

That it leaks to begin with is not a justifiable reason to let it continue to leak.

They also leak through the side coverplate bolt holes, often you will see oil on the bolt heads, as the threaded hole goes right into the casing.

My 98 disco leaked from the filler/level plug until I topped it up and redid the plug with some non-setting gasket gloop.
