Just got a Ladder for my 97 Disco. It didnt come with any mounting hardware. Would you recommend SS screws, SS bolts, or can I buy rivnuts at a hardware store? If I go with the bolts or screws, what length do the ladders come with? Thanks. Chris |

Hey Chris Go to http://www.roverconnection.com and under accessories for DISCOVERY II click on the ladder and there you will see he also sells the hardware for $23. You might wanna double check with him if it's the same for ur DI (should be). John |

$23?! I used 4 self-tapping SS screws that have been perfect for a long time now. The screws do not have direct force pulling on them when using the ladder. The force is on the top lip of the door, therefore, you do not need to go to crazy with bolts, IMHO. Just my 28 cents worth (of screws that is ;0) |

Hell, why even bother to use screws at all. Just use some nails instead. If you use barbed nails, the nails will stay inside the body panels and not pull out. You don't even have to expend the effort to screw in the nails the way you would with screws. Just use a hammer and pound the nails into the body work. And, best of all, you'll save 24 cents compared to buying the screws.

Why even bother with nails? After all, if all of the force is only exerted on the lip of the door, double sided tape should do just fine. Gum might work too. |

Willpower works best. "It won't rattle or fall off...it won't rattle or fall off...it won't rattle or fall off...."

Super Glue is another option. I remember those commercials during the 70's with the dude hanging off that beam. 10,000 lb pulling strength from just one drop. |

I don't have a ladder yet .... but when I get one I'm gonna use the force to hold it on. |

The SS self tapping screws will work. Using the more expensive way shown on this web site and others is great, but you have to be careful about putting too much pressure on it or you will pull the metal out and cause paint chipping - like you don't have enough of that! The ladder actually does hang on the door, the screws just hold it in place. No matter what fastener system you use would rip out if it didn't. Don't use nails. Sheesh, this web site is great for comic relief. I just put it on when I need it, and pull it off and throw it in the back when I'm not. (Actually, I climb up on the spare - easier than the ladder.) |

Don't want to sound a party pooper, but a thought before you fit your Genuine Parts Ladder. I did, borrowed some rivnuts and puller, no problem. 13 months later when it was rusty as hell, I asked during a service if there was any warrenty on it as it looked dreadfull. Told sorry, warrenty was 12 month and Tough. Went to a marine fabricator and had him make one in maraine grade stainles steel at half the original price. Will outlast the Landie, I guess. |

I just sanded mine and put a few coats of bedliner paint on it. It has a bit of texture to it and seems to be pretty tough. A friend has a rivnut tool so I am going to go with that method. Thanks for those with real suggestions. |

I think some of those super-strong rare-earth magnets might work great on that aluminum rear door... |

maybe a tesla coil...it will do nothing for your ladder, but a shift shock in the ass with one will make leaping to the top of the truck much easier... |
