tonight, on my way to Quizzno's, i put on my signal for arounnd 10 seconds before i stopped to make a right turn. 2 seconds into my turn a saab runs into me. TRYING to pass me on the RIGHT while i'm turning RIGHT. i he slams into me. to make a long story short, he dented my fender, ripped my front signal off, my headlights and bent my front bumper almost off. his car was much worse. he had his driver side window in his lap with 2 huge gashes from my steel bumper all along his driver side. the cop decided it was 100% HIS fault. and he was cited. pictures are coming in a few days.

Really sorry to hear about that. I sure hope it turns into a favorable situation for you when his insurance co pays for your repairs.

I think just recently there was a thread about bumper needing replacement after accident and he was looking into replacing it with winch bumper. I don't recall the outcome of that.

Sounds like he hit you good and hard to have inflicted that much damage. How fast was the Saab going? Are YOU okay? I hope I don't sound like I am asking a morbid question: how secure did you stay when he hit you? (like since rovers are built tough, I'd think that would create more cabin stability for occupants). I just detest hate that sound of metal on metal when vehicles hit.

Hope everything works out for you even better than one would expect. Keep us posted.

haha. well, he hit me at about 35 - 40 mph. lets just say he knocked my straight again as i was about 1 second into the turn. i hardly felt anything. just a minor bump. the rover came through for me. me nor my passenger were hurt in the least. it pisses me off sometimes but it's nice to know that it will keep me safe.

Get a winch bumper. When your insurance company see that that's actually cheaper than original equipment, they'll be happy, and so will you.

So sorry to hear about all this - hope something good comes out of it for you.

My insurence blows! They wouldn't let me go that route, even when i told them it was cheaper, they would only put Land Rover parts on it.

Reminds me of the time when I was in the right lane going straight and some crazy kid decided to make a right turn from the left lane in front of me. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view point) the Disco was in the shop (vandalism) and I was in an econo-box rental. Good new is that my insurance company decided it stemmed from the same incident and I didn't have to pay another deductible (kid was uninsured).

Then you should have simply had them make the check out to you based on OME parts. What you did with it after that would be up to you. Hell if they based the estimate on parts form a Land Rover dealer you would have made out like a bandit.

I hit Bambi in my 95 d1 at 60 mph. State Farm replaced my bumper and fixed the damage. When I got the estimate I went to a approved State Farm shop that could do the estimate. When there I told him I'd like a winch bumper, they said no problem. He worked up a replacement cost for my truck. I sourced a ARB bumper from GBR, the body shop picked up and installed it, they used the money for the Oem bumper replacement to pay for the ARB, I even used the left over balance to pay for new OME springs from GBR. A good shop and appraiser will let you do the swap, just be aware the insurence company will then know you wheel your truck and may charge you more because you wheel with it. Didn't happen to me but I have a great agent.

I had a Toyota pull out in front of me with the same results. I asked the insurance adjuster about a winch bumper and he said that he would make out the check directly to me and what I chose to do with it was my business. By sourcing and installing the ARB bumper myself I had enough to get a winch also.

I was about to negotiate a right turn from the curbside lane when the car next to me decided to turn right as well. He ripped the end-cap off the driver side bumper, exposing the big metal behind it to the entire length of his car. He had dual gashes from passenger front quarter panel to the back bumper. Naturally, he was not insured.

I was at a dead stop waiting for some pedestrians to clear the crosswalk - didn't feel a thing when he turned across. The sheer weight and substance of the Rover really shines in situations like that.

I took the opportunity to purchase my ARB right then and there - no better time for a little upgrade!

tjm is out of stock in the usa (if that is where you are located, damien), so if getting a replacement is something you want to do before sometime in september or october, tjm will not be your bumper...

Well I would say go the route of rovetym slim line. But if you don't want to I have heard that rovertym has made some ARB like bumpers. I saw a picture once, I am not sure if they make it anymore, but I bet they might be glad to help you.

Just this morning a guy clipped my front bumper turning into a driveway. Gashed the whole side of his truck and blew his rear tire... just a slight scratch on the bumper for me. had I not heard his tire blow I wouldn't have known it happened.
