Tons of threads on this topic. Try searching. Until you do look at:
http://www.discoweb.org/brianfriend/index.htm
../27/31145.html"http://www.discoweb.org/brianjackson/index.htm" target="_blank">http://www.discoweb.org/brianjackson/index.htm

Also DI or DII? What lift do you have on now?

From what I know it is not too complicated, just lift the suspension, possible body lift, deal with the vibs, caster, high center of gravity, body rubbing, weak axels, loss of power and you are there. I am sure there are more possible issues that you can run into and maybe you don't have all of these issues, but that is a good start.

Ho!

Are you going to the dark side? I thought 34" XZLs are what you love!!! Well, Give me some time until my 36" SX arrive in Lebanon and you'll see how pretty it'll be.

Basically, you need a 2" OME lift, a 2" RTE Body Lift, and the flares, which all sum up quite low actually versus drivetrain angles problems, castor problems and so forth...

As far as axles are concerned, 2 choices if you want to stick to Rovers:
1. Slap in a rear Salisbury
2. 4.11 XHD R&P with a 4.3 Low Ratio to compensate.
For the front, AEU2522, and all the Maxi-drive stuff you can muster/buy.

I *think* is it fairly easy to pack the 9.00XZLs with some mild work.

LOL...I was looking into 37s, BUT, the comps I am planning on running have a 36.5" tall limit, so 36" it is. Ideally, I'd like to have the 37x13 Boggers. Now THAT is extreme for a Disco.

doing it right meaning getting full uptravel out of your shocks and springs without resorting to packed out bumpstops, without the tires hitting the body. with tall, and especially, wide tires, this requires significant cutting of the body.

But they aren't Brian Friends is red. It is my personal opinion that there is even more to it than that. However, there are likely as many opinions on what is the right way to lift as there are people on this site.

If you really want to do it right, your talking a huge job IMO, like caster correction on swivel balls, drive shafts, gears, rear links, front radius arms, drag link, track rod and more. Of course many people do not do this in one shot, which would be the "right" way.

Personally, it would be fun to have some big meats for a week or two, but I cannot see driving my rig with those as a daily driver or long haul vehicle. For me, it is just too much to handle on the road. Plus the trails that give an adrenaline rush are now very difficult trails. I like being thrilled by those intermediate trails rather than having to go "hard core".

However one that that I do really want is a coil over setup like on Kent Pollucks rig. That is awesome, I just won't be throwing 38s on mine anytime soon, but to each his own. Cheers.

Don't get too excited, you might run into issues some do some don't. I have run into issues with 3" and 235/85s. Enough that I am contemplating going back to OME HD stuff. If it is D2 likely you will have an easier time.

It's a D1.I'm going to go with a 2 inch lift and a 2 inch body lift. I between the new rovertym springs and the HD's. I'm wandering how the new RT springs will compare to the old ones. Does anybody have any expierience with the new springs?

I have RTE springs that are about 1 year old (about 8k miles moderate wheeling) and I am not impressed with their ability to carry very heavy loads. If you do not carry a lot of gear all of the time they are OK. Let me know if you want to make an offer on my springs (3"), I will make you a deal. I need something much stiffer.

Alex pretty much nailed what is going to have to happen for me to run 38's, but I have alot more than that in store. In terms of the time frame this is going to happen. Hopefully by the spring. It just depends on my $$$ situation. I've got a decent chunk in the bank now, and hopefully some more on the way. If I can sell all the Rover crap in my garage, I can probably make another sizeable chunk and get ready to roll on this project.

Bri is right, of course. I was oversimplifying. The point I was trying to make is putting the big meats up there, and taking all the uptravel out of your suspension will not make your truck perform better-it will make it less stable. It will only look good just sitting there!

He he.

If you spend more time talking about driving your Disco off road than actually driving it off road, it is time to think about it.

Its sad but true. anyone who lives in or around chicago is a web wheeler, at least most of the time. This region is so heavily developed that there are no public lands (where vehicles are allowed) within 300 miles. The closest public lands are in northern wisconsin--nicolet national forest. There used to be a lot of great wheeling there at the pipeline trail, but the oil company that owns the pipeline has pretty much dozed and graded the whole thing by now. The last time I was up there (last weekend) they removed the last semi-interesting rock section (thunder mountain). all that's left there are lots of little two tracks through the woods.

The only other place to go wheeling around here is Badlands (120 miles away) but that gets old after a while, as its pretty small and we've all run the trails there many many times.

You guys who live out west don't know how lucky you are!

I don't know about my 'neighbors' but I don't get my disco dirty nearly as often as I would like. But at least wrenching on it keeps me off the couch :-)

Many designs could have the pipe added. I know rockware has done them. Likely there are others. Likely around $1000 USD.

http://www.rockware.net/custom/rover12.jpg

If you have someone do this for you, they can do it as high or located where you like. I have never seen much use for it though, others might.
