Sorry I was in a rush and couldn't explain at the time. Took off inside mouldings around alpine windows (two clip things and unbolting the rear seatbelts) reached under the headliner with a socket wrench and unbolted the single nut.
Went to the front of the truck and took off the plastic moulding the surrounds the sunroof controls. This part wasn't as easy, the farthest screw holes were close but not close enough to line up with the roof rack bolts so I took a blade and made a 2 inch cut in the headliner (don't worry both the headliner is thick enough to not be affected by the cut and as you'll see the moulding more than covers the area), fit the socket up there and in a few seconds had the rack off and ready for repair (or what have you)
 Good luck

i pulled my roof bars... cause my disco wont fit in the garage.... i ended up dismanteling just about every piece of moulding in the upper half of my rig, so i didnt have to cut anything...

tedious F'ing job... putting the moulding back around the alpine windows was a PAIN in the butt.

the actual rack removal was easy... but to get to the bolts... aiya....

anyone looking for a set of roof bars that are in good shape?

I've got a set of stock roof rails & crossbars, too, if anyone's interested. In the interest of fairness, Ken should have first dibs on any sales originating from this thread. I have a half-finished tech article with pics about the roof rail removal. Maybe I'll finish it up today and send it to Ho.

 Prices? Bribes? Sexual favors?

I swear I CAN spell! It was all the excitement from the possibility of new rails that caused me to repeatedly mispell. Really.

Ken - Yes, she will notice, and yes, she will hurt you.

Andrew - I have the cross bars, I'm looking for the main rails.

 Anyone?

OK...what happened here? I would REALLY like to get the original roof rails like I first posted (NOT the cross bars although a set would be great) from a Disco I or II. Bueller? Buellor? ;0)

Greg - I have a D1, are the rails the same for both series? Sorry, I'm new at this DIY Rover stuff.

And Jeremy, I may not know much about Rover repairs, but I do know how to move to the front of the line.

Sold to the big red dog.

Damn, I should have listed these things on ebay to make more $$$ and avoid giving dweb their 5%. What was I thinking?

P.S. Molly, sorry you missed the rail purchase, but maybe we can still work something out

Blue, Why is Cliffordthedog emailing me saying he's gonna buy my crossbars? Is he trying to play us against each other, or is he only buying your rails and not your crossbars?
