My D1 has had a virus lately so I was driving my wife's D2 today. The Service Engine Soon light came on so I had the codes checked. I can't recall the numbers, but it was "Too Lean" on both left and right banks. I'm definitely no mechanic, but my first thought was vaccuum leak, or perhaps clogged fuel filter? Ideas anyone?

I had code thrown "too Lean", associated with codes for O2 sensor (Row 1, Bank 1). Replaced O2 sensor - codes ALL cleared. issues with your O2 sensors?

Good Luck,

I had one bank lean (P0174). At first I thought it was the O2 sensor but other discowebbers steered me in another direction. I cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor as they suggested, cleared the code and have had no problems since. It cost me like $5 for the electrical contact cleaner so it was worth the risk, luckily that was the problem. Might not be your problem, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

just took my 2000 SDII to the dealer to fix the same code. They had to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor. James where can you find the sensor. Robert make sure you check your air filter make sure it is clean and that it is closed properly that is the first thing the dealer checks.

On DIIs you ought to consider the MAF a consumable item and just replace it every 60k or whenever it can be suspect . . . loss of power, adaption codes, lean condition codes etc.

The sad thing is it almost never throws an MAF code, it just triggers other, seemingly unrelated, codes.

Good deal Ron, the D2 has around 76k so it is past due on your scheduling:-) I drove it to work and was in some pretty dusty conditions that day. I cleared the codes and it hasn't returned... yet, that is.. we'll see what happens.. later.. RS

Try cleaning the MAF with an electrical contact cleaner before you replace it.
