Wierdest thing....driving in to work yesterday I noticed there was quarter-sized spot of discoloration on my rear view mirror. Looked like the color of coffee. Anyway, got back into the Disco after work and the spot had gotten bigger and moved toward the bottom of the mirror due to gravity I guess. Drove home and parked the ride. This morning got in the truck and "discovered" that there was black liquid all over my dash. Looks as though the mirror took a dump on my center console as well. There was black liquid dripping from the mirror. Needless to say, I can't see clearly out of the mirror anymore. All the lights work, but the reflection is fuzzy and produces double images of everything. Question......WHAT THE HELL IS THIS LIQUID? I guess it's time to get a new mirror....

My DII has the same issue, except that it has not dropped its load yet. I actually took it in this morning to have it fixed (as well as some other things). I chaulked mine up to Texas heat...

hey guys...

do a search for mirrors...i can't remember the name of the company, but the manufacturer of that mirror is aware of the design flaw and they are replacing them at no cost other than shipping. there have been a few threads with that issue in the topic, so it should be pretty easy to find.

mike

oh...spencer, get back to work. i want to see my tax dollars in action!

Guys,

The company name is Magna Donnelly. Contact them on their website, let them know the issue and Lisa (who helped a bunch of us) should send you a replacement. She only asks that send back the bad one for R&D purposes.

yep, that liquid ate the dash & center console on my D1. Thankfully the mirror, dash, and console were replaced under warranty.

Does the disco have to be under warranty? If it does then I'm up a creek. I'll try to get the number to that place and see what they say.

I hate this site!!!

I'll tell you why...Every time someone comes up with a new problem on here, my truck seems to catch it!

Yesterday, I read this thread while I was at work. When I went out and got in, I noticed that my mirror went to shit, as was mentioned above!

This is not the first time something like this has happened, either. I read something on here, and BAM! Within a day, my truck is doing it!

Kinda creepy...

At least I know how to fix the stuff, though!

Did anyone ever find out if the vehicle has to still be under warranty?

the vehicle does not have to be under warranty. All you have to do is call, email, or write the company and they will send you a new mirror. All they want is your "bad/faulty" mirror in return.

My '96 Disco had the same problem but the liquid did not leak out. I priced the mirror and quickly started to find a cheaper replacement to no avail. I removed the mirror and opened it up to see what was inside. I found the mirror has two pieces of glass pressed together with the liquid inside. I was able to break the outer glass and salvaged the other. I clean up the mess and put it all back together and reinstalled. I disconnected the wires since the dimmer no longer works but hey I can see perfectly now.

I would not attempt this unless you have nothing to lose and plan on buying a new mirror anyway.
