I tried to open my Disco II (99) and the remote is not reponnding to open it. I can open manually but that doesn't do me any good. locking button is working fine. is only the button to open it!! and I am 300 miles away from a dealership!! any ideas on how to disactivate the alarm manually?

thanks

Jorge, On the 1999 D2's you should be able to deactivate the alarm by just using the key to open the door. If not then you need to have the Key (EKA) Code to get around the remote. But my 1999 D2 came eith the EKA disabled.

Guys,

Thank you for the information. after struggling with it for 2 hours last night, I finally figured out the problem and I wanted to share it with you because I almost called road assistant to tow it 300 miles. sounds very stupid..I know..but you learn the hard way. what happen was that the little circuit board inside the remote control came loose for the unlocking button. basically, when I pressed it, it did not make any contact with the very small button on the circuit board. apperently the welding broke when I pressed the outside too hard. I could weld it right at the moment, but I hold it in place and it unlocked it. keep in mind that the two small buttons for locking/unlocking in the circuit board are identical so this could happen to any of the two if pushed to hard. bottom line, I welded it today at a tv repair place for free!!! I keep thinking of all the trouble I was going to get into by sending it to the dealership. Brian, thanks for the advice. I still do know why I couldn't disactivate the alarm with the manual key.

my two cents

Is there a battery in there or something? Mine seems to have gotten real weak. I have to be right next to the truck for the remote to work.

yes,

the battery is located inside the remote control. mine is Disco II (99), but I am assuming all newer discos are the same. you can get the battery at radio shack for $3.24, although I got it for free because they did not take out of state checks!!!! beware though! it might not be the battery, but a loose contact on the board inside the remote. open it and look around for anything unusual. now that I fixed mine, it is far more sensitive than it use to be, but it was not the battery.

my two cents

BTW, unless there is something wrong with your alarm system, it should disarm if you unlock the drivers door with the key. You really don't need the remote unless you want to open any of the other doors first.
I don't quite understand how one would get stranded because of it??

mine has the annoying habit of locking just fine, and then taking 652 clicks to unlock it with one of those '94 d1 1-button remotes. if i lock with the key, the alarm goes off when i unlock with the key (in the driver's side). i now just lock with the key, holding it in the locked position for around 5 seconds so the alarm doesn't engage, and then unlock with the key. i'm rarely in a location when i can test my alarm without waking up every neighbor i have for 3 miles when the horns go off.

I had an annoying remote problem recently in a DI - in a loaner truck from the deler. I was in a mall lot and the remote would not open the door. The key would not fit the drivers door lock. When I tried to get in the alarm went off. I finally had to crawl into the truck through the rear door with the horn blaring and unlock the drivers door with the door latch button. Then I couldn't get the car to start. After screwing with it for 10 minutes I finally got a combination of things going and the car did start. What a nightmare.

turning the key to "unlock" and holding it there should deactivate the alarm until you hold the key in the "locked" position for 5 seconds, which reactivates it. my remote hasn't worked for months so i went back and read all about it in the manual. now i'll try re-soldering the remote.
thanks,
carl
