My upper radiator hose has a major hernia happening at the thermostat housing.
It seams to be a reasonably new hose, I'v had the 93 D1 for three years now and there where a set of hoses in the back when I purchased her.
Just went to fix the hernia by replacing the hose with the 1 that was in the back and I found it is an older hose that has been cut off just above the thermostat.
This leads my to think that the build up between the hose and the thermostat making the hernia has hapend before.
How can this be prevented, what am I likely to fined under the hose when I get it of and how is this build up likely to effect the cooling system.

Sweet mate. Glad you have got it fixed and some $ left for a cold one! What are those blue HT leads? Time to change mine and thinking about Magnecor but can't get Magnecor here unless by mail order.

Cheers.

Gil,
They are: TOP GUN 8.0mm HI-TEMP CILICONE SUPPRESION CABLES.
They seem to do the trick.
A $12.00 hose change is not too bad "A" mate :-)
We done well.

You must ensure you change coolant on a reg basis.
Some say yearly to be sure esp with the aluminium and copper in this engine and rad.
I use a coolant said to be safe for these metals.
Landrover also sell coolant if your not sure.
Hopefully someone will post a good brand for the part of the world you live in.

Gave the cooling system a good flush out today, and cleand up the bottom hose where it conects to the pump.Put new coolant in and I will be doing the same in 12 months.
So this will not happen agian.:-)
