I would like to install the Bilstein 6100 series front & 7100 series rear shocks on my 97 Disco I with RTE 2" suspension. I am planning to get the 360/80 valving for the shocks. Is this the right valving for the front & rear? Does anyone run such a setup? Impressions? Could you please post the part numbers and the source for the shocks?

I have spoken to Bill@GBR a couple of times. He always mentions that he will get back to me with the part numbers so I could order them BUT never does.

BTW, I am running the RTE rear upper shock mounts. Do I need new shock mounts?

Thanks.
Jay.

Try here for all the specs. I put in 7100s 10 inch _short shock bodies_, mistakenly chose with the 275 valving, way too soft for HD springs & will need to update. Will need a new upper shock mount to fit the rose-ended joint. If higher lift, can use the 12" short bodies, RTE sells a small spacer to lower the bottom shock mount for this shock.

Jay hi
I just put on the 7100 rear (AK7112-SBO6). I love it. I have done two trails with the new set up and like it. On road it is great. I also have the RTE upper mount. The lower mount I put a "Y" mount. The way I have the lower mount I think it will bottom out if I have a full load, unsure. I also have 3" bump stops in the back. Looking at my post I see the shock part # might not tell you what it is sooo... It is a 12" short body with resivore. Hope this helps Max

Jay just reread Marks post. You will need some type of new lower mount the shock is eye to eye. The valving on the part # I gave you is 360/80. Max

Hi All,

Thanks for the information. A few further questions. My truck is on the road 90% of the time with some occasional light/medium offroad duties.

I see that they have both a remote reservoir as well as a "schraeder" (sp?) valve type of shocks in the 7100 series. What is the difference between the two?

Why would one choose 7100 series in the rear instead of the 6100 series shocks? Will 6100 series shocks all around work as well as a 6100/7100 combo?

Are you guys running 360/80 in the rear too? I generally do not carry any weight in the back and am thinking that 360/80 might be too harsh. Any thoughts?

I will probably get a pair of rear lower mounts (RTE) to fit them.

Thanks.
Jay.

I have 6100 in the front and 7100 in the rear with RTE 3inch Springs and 1 inch spacers. Get the 360/80 for the rear. They are not too stiff and they match the RTE spring. The front with the 6100's are at 275 or close. You could go 6100 all around. I run the 12 inch reg body (not short body) with 4 inches of lift and a lower shock mount spacer. They almost bottom out. Go with the 12 short body.

Hi Jay
I went with the 7100 because of the length. I did not see a 6100 that had the right col/ext length. the shock part# I posted above has a collapsed length of 16.03" and ext. length of 28.06" at a bit over 28" my spring will fall out. The Rancho 9234 have a col. length of 16.2 and ext. length of 27.84 I have to agree with James and say get the 360/80 short body. I still have rancho up front but will soon switch (when is payday?). After I found what I wanted I called Bilstein and asked about the valving and chose the 360/80. My Disco is a daily driver and feels good on the road. but whith the rancho's if I hit washboard ashphalt over 30 mph the truck would go sideways, not a cool thing. I also had a hard time with control if the tires did not have 40 psi or more. Good luck on finding the right set-up for you. let me know what you put up front. Max
P.S. It took 5 weeks for my shocks to come in.
