Hey fellow D-Webbers!
I just had a Magna Flow insalled, I love the additional power gain and the idle, however the resignation is at a constant between 1.5 to 2.5 RPM (it's loud) I also had 3 inch pipe added throught. What can I do to keep the set up but loose some of the noise it is deafning and now my wife hates going anyplace in the Rover. Please help

Also the resonator was not reinstalled, I added the chrome tip instead. Any insight would be appreciated.

Rick-

I also had a magnaflow installed but kept stock size tubing throughout (2.5"?). I also had a "Blue Streak" straight through bullet type muffler installed in place of rear resonator. It looks very similiar to an NRP stainless system but I preferred mild steel due to fact that I've damaged system in past.

Sound is not much (if any) louder than stock but much deeper sound.

Which magnaflow muffler did you use? If it's 11224 it should only have been 2 1/4" in and out, with the stock pipe it should be just a smooth rumble. Why did you add the 3" pipe?? You really don't gain anything with the 3" pipe except the additional resonance from the muffler back, which is why it's so loud.

Your options are you can either replace the 3" pipe back to the 2 1/4,, Put in a resonator, the "Blue Streak" bullet would be a good one or move the magnaflow to the rear where the old resonator used to be but I still think it will be louder than you want because of the resonance with the 3". My suggestion is to go back to the 2 1/4" pipe (2 1/2" max if you want more noise), you'll get a good sound, a nice deep rumble not very obnoxious, with overall increased performance.

get a Flowmaster Delta-Flow or a new wife :-) my wife actually likes the truck as is.
a 3" pipe will definately be louder than stock size.
i used to have a 50 series (3 chamber)Flowmaster and it had the same resonance that you are seeing. after a few years it needed to get replaced so looking at the website, i replaced it with a 40 series (2 chamber) Delta flow. it definately got rid of the resonance and was still as quiet as the 50 series.

sounds form when i had the 50 series

I too went the magna flow route. Stock pipe size and no resonator. It's not bad noise wise, but I like the idea of the "blue streak" muffler. Where did you get it? Who makes a bullet muffler that's stainless and not one of those ricer boy things? I wouldn't mind toning down the muffler volume, but don't want to loose the little performance it gave me by adding the magna flow in the first place. Funny thing was someone who heard it told me it sounded like a real offroader now ... lol

Andy-

It was installed by a local muffler shop. I had a complete new exhaust installed including cats.

The Blue Streak muffler is made by Allied Manufacturing in Benecia, CA. Mine is a B-15 blank.

You can't buy the "blue streaks" from Allied unless you are a authorized muffler shop. You should be able to go to virtually any muffler shop and get a glass pack resonator to reduce the sound. If you can't get one, let me know I can ship you one..

But the Magnaflow with the stock 2 1/4 pipe should give you a good tone without being too loud so you shouldn't really need one.

FWIW.. I just replaced my magnaflow with a Flowmaster series 40 and didn't really like the sound. Why did I do it.. I had a set of flowmaster off of another vehicle (I replaced with a couple of Magnaflows) but now I can explain the differences to my customers. Although the Flowmaster sounded OK, I just didn't care for it. A little to much resonance from their chambers for my taste although, some of the guys did liked it. Like I always tell my customers, it's all a matter of personal taste..

Thanks, I don't know if I'll change it, my wife doesn't seem to mind the noise so I will probably leave it alone. But the popping of the back pressure while going down hill in low is annoying to me.

Since we are on the exhaust kick, I will throw out a question that I posted in the past but was never answered. What is the stock inlet size for a DII muffler? Also, is it possible to run dual exhaust on a DII with SLS (please don't post anything like "your tips will get torn off while wheeling" as I am aware of the potential risk here).
Regards,
Luke

Andy.. You shouldn't be getting any popping going downhill. Your somehow getting fresh air into the exhaust system during deceleration so I would look for an exhaust leak somewhere in the system. You might not be able to hear it, but feel around the top of the welds.

Luke.. The standard exhaust on the DII should be 2 1/4" pipe. Is it possible to run dual exhaust.. I've always said if you have enough money anything is possible. Because the Differiential is offset (not centered). It would be a tight fit to (safely) route the exhaust on the passenger side (for dual exhaust) which is why the exhaust is routed on the driver side of the diff while the passenger side is smaller and have the wires and vent lines.
