Are you driving it hard? Do you have gear like roof rack and lights on there? Are you running mud tires? That all makes a difference.

not driving it hard at all really. no roof rack or lights or mud tires. the engine seems like its lost a bit of power over the past couple years. it has 111,000 miles on it.

i've read a lot of the archives and have seen that most people get at least 250 in the city and over 300 on the highway. they say ~13-15mpg, i get 8-11mpg. theres gotta be somethin wrong there. what else can affect fuel consumption?

completely out of my league here, but would a dirty air filter, bad spark plugs, bad plug wires have anything to do with it?

I dont think your figure could be too out of range for your year milage etc? Have you replace your cap rotor wires? how about fuel pump? you using premium. I think those few items could help your situation. I replaced my fuel filter cap rotor etc and noticed smoother performance as far as milage is concerned I havent driven far or enough to really see what kinda milage I am getting out of a full tank. FWIW.

what size tires? is your odometer reading correctly? dirty injectors? have you tried using additives to clean the fuel system? plugs and wires ok? exhaust?

when my DI was stock (6 years ago) i got great milage. teh best was 17mpg. all i had done was a K&N, Flowmaster, Magnecor wires and Bosch +4's. this was also using cheap gas.

yeah i alternate between mid grade and premium gas. the fuel filter only has about 10K on it, it has new plugs and wires, but the cap and rotor are fairly old. i may try replacing them. tires are dunlop rover r/t 265/76/16. also have a k&n filter in. could also possibly be dirty injectors, any easy way to check them? muffler is fairly old, but had the resonator chopped off a while back and new high-flow cats welded in.

I would attribute it to your tires. replace fuel filter cap rotor and wires. go with genuine cap and rotor magnecor wires and a napa fuel filter. You can get your wires cap and rotor for a resonable cost from www.roverconnection.com

If you haven't adjusted your speedometer (or your calculations) to account for the height-difference of the 265/75R16 tires over the stock 235/70R16, then that'll be a good bit of the difference. My wife's '95 is getting ~14mpg on 225/75R16... with 265, you're not doing bad.

FWIW...

Did the gas mileage get worst recently?? Did you make any changes to the vehicle??

I would suggest taking the vehicle into a diagnostic place to check the system. Why did you replace the O2 sensor and cat?? You really need to scan the system and it could tell you a whole lot than just shooting in the dark.

The average gas mileage I've seen ranges from 10 - 15 MPG depending on driving habits and items on and in the vehicle.

I was constantly gettin 11 with 245/75's Rover RT's. I have had a new exhaust, new cats, new O2 sensors, new cap/roter, new plugs and new fuel filter. I finally put 45psi in the tires when I was on the road and it bumped it to 13.5.

My RT's say you can fill em to 80, so I figured I would try it out, seem to make a difference, and also, I dont usually go any faster than 70 now, that helps as well.
