Hi, I am new to this forum, but hope that someone here can help me!
I purchased a Brush Guard STC8454AA on E-bay for my Disco '96, but was unable to install it. It seemed very tight and the bumper too far out. Later I was told that I would need a bumper plinth STC8836AA to make this work.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Is the bumper plinth really necessary or is the brush guard not even the right part???!!!? PLEASE HELP!
Thank you.

It bolts to the frame using the same bolts as the bumper, so if the bar is too tight to slip on there, you will need an original Land Rover Precision Adjustent tool, a.k.a. a big hammer.

As for the bumper "sticking too far out", it really sounds like you have some plastic in the way, probably in the middle part of the bumper where your front license plate mounts? That would be the plinth. Either you are not lining up the bar right, or if you are, you need to either remove, cut or replace the plinth with one that fits.

The key is to get the bar mounted correctly to the frame, the rest should be self evident, unless you accidentally bought a bar for a Range Rover.

It actually said Range Rover, but the item # was for Land Rover, that is what kind of confused me, but our local LR dealer assured me that it would be the right item. I am not so sure anymore.
I will purchase the plinth I listed above, which will hopefully fix my "too much plastic" problem.
I think the bumper is the only thing that is "in the way", other than that it should fit.
Thanks very much, Axel. I think I am on the right way! :-)

Before you buy the plinth, remove the existing one and do a test fitting without it. If it fits fine that way, you have the correct bar.

The plinth is somewhat expensive, and some people have opted to simply cut the two edges of the plinth that stick out, others have simply removed it.

As far as bolting the brush guard, I would recommend grade 8 bolts. And then tighten the living hell out of them. This will allow you to use the lower mounts in an emergency situation for some gentle pulls.

Okay, we will try to fit the BG without the existing plinth on the weekend to see if it's the right one. Good idea!
Porter, I have checked into pricing and a new one would cost me CAN$164.00. It's expensive. Not sure if moisture could get in there if I would cut it off. I think I'd rather spend the money!?!
Thanks very much to both of you!!! Greatly appreciate the help!
