Hey guys, I was curious if you guys could give me your input on this. Recently, i've noticed that there is a wierd coolant smell coming from around the passenger side front of the vehicle if i'm idling for a long time, or turn the engine off. The smell is nonexistant on the driver side of the vehicle, which I find odd. If I really sniff around, I can smell it from the front grill as well. I am not losing any coolant, so can you guys tell me whether this is normal, or if anyone else is having this?

Thanks

June,

Take it to the dealer and let them worry about it. If you show no loss in the reservior then you are likely OK. In my '00 I have always had a coolant smell, and have always had a coolant leak. The first time a porous engine block which required a small-block replacement at 10K. Then I had a radiator fail at 30K. Now I seem to have another porous block at 40K, but can't say for sure. That can wait until my next service visit on the 9th.

Quite frankly these problems have not concerned me too much. Further, I am very happy that they occurred since the rig is under warranty. I would rather they get this stuff worked out now rather than later.

Don't sweat it too much and have it checked out when you get the chance.

Well, this morning, the smell got really strong, then I noticed it start leaking coolant. I immediately called Land Rover Cincinnati up, and they had me bring it in right away. After 30 minutes, it's all fixed and ready to go again! Apparantly, the hose that goes from the expansion tank into the radiator had went bad and was gushing coolant from it. I find it awesome how LR Cincy was willing to stop everything they were working on, take care of my problem, and have me back on my way!

June,

Glad to hear about your good fortune. Mine was well above expected as well. I had a rear air spring go out in Moab. LR sent a tow rig from Green River to pick up my rig in Moab and tow it to Salt Lake. They paid for room & board, meals, and a $360 rental car tab. Once at the dealer, they discovered the coolant leak from the block as a periodic inspection. New small block and I was on my way.

Needless to say, LR service has always exceeded my expectations.
