just out of the blue (shock!), my rear door handle, as well as inside, will not open... before I go over to my mechanic, is there an easy way to fix it by popping off the inside door cover? I'm assuming a little W-D 40 on the mechanism and working it should free it up. ideas?

Patrick, take a very small flat-blade screwdriver and pop off the LR oval off the back of the door where the handle is. Being careful not to make a mess, spray some white lithium grease on the assembly and try to get it inside as well (where the assembly goes through the door panel). Allow to sit for 15 minutes and then come back and work the handle (outside) for a bit. Repeat if necessary. FWIW, I always add lithium grease to the lock assemblies every oil change because your problem has happened to me on a couple of occasions. I wouldn't use WD-40 because dirt sticks to it and then you get all kinds of crud in the mechanisms. |
