Hello,

I recently had my 99 Disco II in the dealership for warranty repairs. My rig would sputter and the check engine light would flash and then go solid. After several start ups the light would go out but would then come on again when I would accelerate up hills. When the testbook was plugged in it said the number 6 injector had gone bad which leads me to believe I was running on 7 cylinders.

Does anybody know what might have caused this to happen? I've never run the truck out of gas and I always use premium. Could it have been bad gas or bad plugs and wires or what? I don't want to have to deal with this again because my nearest dealership is in Anchorage (360 miles away). Thanks.

Its Carbon build-up. I had the exact thing happen to my 1998 Disco. It was on the injector #2 though. Buy some fuel injector cleaner like gum out, and add it to a full tank of gas when you change the oil. Its not bad to have the factory fuel system cleaner service done every 30,000 to keep the carbon build up down also. My mechanic does it for $62.50, and it helps give you a smoother ride, better acceleation, and less build-up.
