My 1995 Discovery has a leaking oil pan.third time in 5 yrs why, also how come landrover does not use oil pan gasket anymore, they tell me they use Rite stuff sealant etc.One last thing I called a few Landrover Dealerships and was told it was a two hr job to reseal oil pan aka sump but yet book time states 1.1 thats a 90% increase from book time,Do Landrover dealers think we are stupid,I would reseal sump myself but dont have a lift..Signed a very concerned Discovery owner By the way I have a 1995 3.9 5 Spd with 41,000 miles RSVP RSVP one and all. |

Yes, the dealers think we are stupid...and what's more, they actually don't care. BUT...Land Rover have a secret weapon for us all to wake these pratts up. It's called Disco 3 ... and it will be sooo hard to sell, the dealers will have to find out what real work is. |

The oil pan gasket part number for your 95' is #602087, the list price is $10.32 and the book calls for 1.2 hours labor time. Use Permatex that can withstand lots of heat, if you are going to do it yourself. Your Rover doesn't have to be a leaker but double check your pan to make sure there are no cracks or dents that could cause a leak also. |

I would reseal sump myself but dont have a lift You don't need a lift; I've dropped my pan a couple of times. I used ramps to get extra elbow room and make it more comfortable, but it wasn't necessary, I could have done it with it sitting on the floor. AFAIK, Rover's used RTV-like stuff from the factory for quite some time, haven't used gaskets, per se. Actually, if you take the time to do it right, it should be better than a formed gasket. Just take your time, get your surfaces clean, plan out what you're doing, etc. Just do it! FWIW... -L
